On April 21 2026, San Antonio Spurs star player Victor Wembanyama suffered a concussion playing against the Portland Trailblazers. Fans from both teams were shocked when this occurred. The majority of Spurs fans understandably, because he is a key piece towards the team. It was very clear Victor Wembanyama was in a lot of pain and made faces showing his physical pain. The Portland Trail Blazers ended up taking the win 103 to 106 after the concussion. The Spurs coach said “we’ll obviously take the proper and appropriate steps.”(Wright April 21 2026). As a coach he addressed the situation correctly. Most coaches might’ve overreacted about their star player getting concussed, but he stayed calm and composed.

Also “A concussion diagnosis initiates a 48 hour league-mandated recovery period before he can go through a return-to-play evaluation(Powell April 23, 2026). 48 hours is a reasonable time period for a concussion to check if a player will be competent to play again. Due to the fact that it’s the playoffs and it’s a short window for recovery. “Wembanyama, the league’s first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, was ruled out of Game 3 on Friday”(Peterson April 26, 2026). It was unfortunate that Victor couldn’t help his team in game 3, but fortunately “The Spurs announced about an hour before tipoff Sunday that Wembanyama could play in Game 4…He went on to score 27 points with 11 rebounds and seven blocks”(Peterson April 26, 2026).
Overall, It was unfortunate that Victor Wembanyama got a concussion and missed a game due to it. But he bounced back and came back like he never left. Hopefully he continues to thrive and have a great rest of the season.
