On September 6th, Stray, a dystopian horror game about a cat trying to return to the surface after humanity died out due to a bacterial infection, has been confirmed to be getting a film adaptation! Stray was released on July 19th, 2022 and immediately became a hit, selling nearly 2.5 million copies in the first month of sales after the initial launch. It was so loved in fact, that according to IMDB, it was nominated in 9 different categories for an award, and won 5 awards for art direction, 2023 Game of the Year, best debut Indie, best Indie, and 2022 Game of the Year, which shows that the game is fully worth the hype.

The movie adaptation was announced by Robert Baird and doesn’t currently have a release date but it is highly anticipated by fans of the game. Annapurna Interactive, the studio that animated the game is said to also be animating the movie. According to an interview with Variety.com on September 5th, Baird said “This is a game all about what makes us human, and there are no humans in it! It’s a buddy comedy about a cat and robot dynamic, and there’s such a hilarious dynamic. So there’s comedy inherent in this, but there’s not one human being in this movie. I think it’s one of the reasons why the game was incredibly popular, that you are seeing the world through the point of view of an adorable cat.” Regardless of if you played the game or not, watching the movie should be on the bucket list for the future!
