On October 27th, 2023, the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie was released in theaters and on Peacock. I went to see the movie in theaters on Saturday the 28th. This will be a review on the horror, aesthetics, and content quality. Fair warning, if you have not seen the movie yet, I will be talking about plot points, so spoilers ahead.

As a horror movie (which is how it is categorized in Peacock) it wasn’t that scary. Yes, there were many jumpscares which the game franchise is known for. Although It was personally quite scary for me because I am a very jumpy person who gets scared more by fast moving objects rather than psychological horror, the average horror movie lover wouldn’t think this movie is scary at all. So for the horror of the movie I would give it a 5/10.

For the aesthetics of the movie- it was absolutely beautiful. The animatronics were recreated fabulously. From Matpat’s video on how he was in the movie (which is bonus point towards the film) he said that they used an old abandoned Home Depot to build the pizzeria inside to look as accurately as possible to the game version. I was very excited to see all the easter eggs and details put into this movie. The aesthetics of the movie was a 10/10.

For the context of the film, I was a little disappointed. The director went off the path of the original lore that was connected into the game. Such as the character Abby, Mike’s little sister. She is not a character currently in the game, so it starts to make the connected lore and timeline confusing. But other than the lore loopholes, I very much enjoyed the movie. My favorite part was the fort building scene.

The cast of the animatronics, Abby, Mike, and Vanessa laying together after they build the fort.

It just felt so much fun in the middle of a horror movie, and it really showed off that the people possessing the robots were just kids. All they wanted to do was play. All in all I’d give the content/plot of the movie a 6.5/10

In conclusion, would I say this was the best movie of 2023? No, I would not. But for what it’s worth, it was a fun movie that the community and fanbase are happy with, regardless of what the movie critics say. For a final score, I would give the FNAF movie a 7/10. Not great with the horror, but an amazing experience.

But that’s just a theory, a game theory! Thanks for reading.
