The New York Giants appointed Brian Daboll as their head coach on January 28, 2022, and immediately he became the face of a team that longed for a return to the postseason. With his previous experience as an offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots, Daboll’s arrival was like a breath of fresh air.
In his first year, he led the Giants to a 9–7–1 record and a Wild Card playoff victory and was honored as the 2022 AP NFL Coach of the Year. Nevertheless, it was not all smooth sailing for Daboll as the following seasons presented nothing but difficulty. The combination of injuries, turnover in the roster, and inconsistency all contributed to the Giants’ disappointing records in 2023 and 2024.

It was not long before he got the axe in the midseason as the losses mounted, and the team registered a 2–8 start in 2025. Daboll consistently throughout his time put the emphasis on focus, preparation, and accountability. When he was talking about his coaching staff changes, he remarked, “I have a lot of respect for them … their commitment to the team, their work ethic … but I wanted to make a change.” Giants(Jan 8 25). In commenting about roster moves and the daily grind, he said, “All you’re trying to do is improve … week to week … the biggest thing is … just really about the mindset of improving every day for everybody in the organization.”
The end of Daboll’s time with the Giants was marked by frustration for the most part but his quick success especially his first year in revamping a stagnant franchise, remains a defining chapter in his coaching career.
