On November 11th 2025, The Dallas Mavericks made a big move and fired General Manager Nico Harrison. Which was a long awaited decision after Nico made a highly questionable decision back in February NBA Star Luka Doncic was traded from the Mavericks to Los Angeles Lakers For NBA Star Anthony Davis. And after that trade took place, many fans from both teams were very upset. And the trade overall didn’t make sense for either side.

The Dallas Mavericks were losing their young Superstar and the LA Lakers losing their Superstar Center. Nico “Harrison, 52, accepted responsibility for the trade and defended the move by claiming there were concerns over Doncic’s physique and commitment to conditioning”(Guardian Nov. 11th 2025). Whether Luka Doncic struggled with his physique or not. Many other teams wouldn’t have made an abrasive decision but instead helped work with the young Star.

Nico also stated “I did know that Luka was important to the fanbase… I didn’t quite know it to what level”(Guardian Nov.11th 2025).  Nico Harrison not factoring Luka’s Influence on fans across the world and trading him. Was not the best decision to improve the organization’s chances of winning an NBA Championship.

Also Nico Harrison didn’t have a great relationship with Mark Cuban, a partial owner of the Dallas Mavericks. “Harrison was adamant in talks with Dumont that the basketball operations department would function much better without Cuban’s constant interference”(MacMohon Nov. 19th 2025). Relationships play a big part in business. Which ultimately led to him being let go from the Dallas Mavericks Organization.
