On November 30th 2025, Lane Kiffin Ole Miss head football coach announced that he was signing a seven year contract with the LSU Tigers. This decision left many shocked and it also left Ole Miss fans upset due to the fact the College football playoffs are approaching and they are losing the coach that helped them get to where they are now. Lane Kiffen “claimed Ole Miss players urged him to stay for the playoffs, but multiple Rebels disputed the narrative on social media Tuesday”(Schilken Dec. 3 2025).  Kiffen’s decision clearly shows the players were not pleased with it at all. Which is an understandable reaction from the players since it seems the coach chose his own benefits over the teams benefit.

Many even Ole Miss fans consider this a bad decision because “Kiffen departed for a program they consider its fiercest rival in the SEC”(Schlabach Dec. 3 2025). Lane Kiffen’s move to a different team in the middle of the season was already hard on Ole Miss’s organization but going to an SEC rival makes it even worse because it creates a betrayal from Lane Kiffen unintentionally or not.

Overall, Lane Kiffin made a very abrupt decision to Sign a seven year deal at LSU. That he may or may not regret in the future depending on his coaching performance. Some fans might even be unforgiving since he left during the middle of a college football season. But what’s done is done and Lane Kiffen must make the most of his abrupt decision.
