On January 12th 2026, The Houston Texans demoralized the Pittsburgh Steelers winning 30 to 6 in the NFL wild card playoff round. The Steelers were struggling offensively all game and couldn’t get any momentum going at all. The Texans offense was also having a hard time trying to score and pull the game away. Texans quarterback CJ Stroud fumbled the ball 5 times and didn’t recover 3 of them. This game “was expected to be a low-scoring affair”(Jan 13. 2026 Collins). Everyone already knew this game wouldn’t be a shootout between both of these teams because late in the season, the quarterbacks were not putting up any incredible stats.

The Steelers haven’t won a playoff game in 9 years, which might mean it’s time for a change in the coaching staff. “Pittsburgh’s head coach Mike Tomlin could also be set for a change as the Steelers have now lost their past seven play-off games”(Jan 13. 2026 Collins). Coaching plays a big factor in a football team’s success. If a coach cannot properly make good adjustments and decisions it will hurt the team’s growth significantly which isn’t something to be content with.
We have seen teams like the Cincinnati Bengals, who haven’t made any coaching changes and how that hasn’t gotten them much success in recent years besides their 2022 super bowl loss. Overall The Houston Texans easily defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers because their offensive and defensive schemes are simply outdated to compete for any chance at another Superbowl or even another playoff win. Hopefully Both teams can make adjustments that will work in their favor and bring them better success.
