The Miami University (Ohio) RedHawks men’s basketball team has put together one of the most remarkable seasons in program history in 2025-26, combining unprecedented success with growing national attention. Through early February,
Miami has compiled a perfect record, standing undefeated with a 22-0 mark and ranking in the AP Top 25 for the first time in decades. This hot start marks the best opening to a season in school and Mid-American Conference history and places Miami among the very few unbeaten teams remaining in Division I.

The RedHawks have balanced high-scoring offense with resilient defense, earning dramatic wins in overtime and capturing milestones long elusive to the program. Miami’s surge has been fueled by a cohesive locker room culture and clutch performances from multiple contributors.
Head coach Travis Steele has emphasized focus and process over pressure as the team advances. Reflecting on the journey, Steele said, “The journey’s been fun,” encapsulating the collective effort and enjoyment behind this historic run (Kissell, 1/20/26 ).
Coach Travis Steele also responded to critics of the RedHawks schedule “People are going to say, ‘Well, who did they play? You still got to win,”. “We’re 19-0 — haven’t lost any games. We’ve won on the road, we’ve won [on] neutral [sites], we’ve won [at] home…Don’t penalize us for people…not willing to play us.” (Fox Sports, 1/19/26).
Senior leadership and chemistry have driven results, and the culture has been praised by players as a key to their success. Miami has repeatedly withstood adversity, including a mid-season injury to a key starter, yet continued its winning ways. As the RedHawks eye the MAC regular-season title and NCAA Tournament berth, they remain a compelling mid-major story and a symbol of consistency and belief in Oxford this winter.
With March looming, Miami’s challenge will be to maintain its momentum against tougher conference foes and solidify a postseason position.
