According to the same article, “In their search, officials reported finding documents and pieces of the crashed plane, which eventually led to the discovery of the bodies of the two men who were on board”.

According to WHIO, crews say they lost contact with the plane just before 11 p.m. the night of September 27 and the Evansville tower notified Owensboro dispatch of a possible downed plane.

According to Adam Kight at WEVV, the cause of the crash is still under investigation, however it is believed that it was due to a severe thunderstorm that was warned by the National Weather Service the night the plane crashed at around 10:50 p.m. (28th of September).

According to the same article, data that was provided to them from FlightAware showed that the plane had a rapid descent at a very fast rate of speed right before the plane crashed.

According to a FAA report, the plane – a fixed-wing single-engine Piper PA-28-161 Warrior – was registered to Eagle Flight Academy.

The PA-28-161 Warrior plane involved in the crash was a 4 seat cabin monoplane with a single 160 hp Avco Lycoming O-320-D3G flat-four engine.

According to Skytamer, A total of 2,905 Warriors had been sold by the 1st of January 1987.

Skytamer also say that these aircraft were used for training commercial and military pilot cadets, commencing in January 1988 with trainees sponsored by British Airways.
