On October 25th 2025, Sami Hamdi was detained by ICE during one of his speaking tours. The Trump administration said “its decision to detain Hamdi and revoke his visa underscores that the US has no obligation to host foreigners who support terrorism and actively undermine the safety of Americans.” (Christian Edwards, October 27th)He was accused of supporting terrorism and was detained until further discipline. 

    The CAIR has called for a release because they feel that the action was wrong and a “blatant affront to free speech”. Hamdi is a journalist and commentator who appears on British TV. According to his social media, Hamdi regularly goes on speaking tours and has recently traveled to Malaysia, Turkey and South Africa, as well as the US. Statement given off by CAIR, “On Saturday, Hamdi had spoken at CAIR’s annual gala in Sacramento, California, and had been due to speak at the gala of CAIR Florida the next day.”(Christian Edwards, October 27th) He was on tour and had spoken at the Annual Gala, he was detained shortly after.

    Given the information that’s been provided, we do not fully understand what is going to happen to Hamdi. We do know that he is still in custody and his next action is pending. He was supposed to speak out at the gala of CAIR in Florida. CAIR has called for his release and has said that this detainment was the wrong approach to punishment for something that could have very much been a mistake. Given the circumstances Hamdi will either be released or deported.
