On Wednesday, March 4 2026, late at night, Britney Spears was arrested after suspicions for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol after driving erratically and at high speeds in Southbound 101 Freeway in California.

Her vehicle was reportedly towed and she was given sobriety tests. She claims that she left her driver’s license at the security of her home as an excuse for not having it, and she was taken into custody at 3 am on Thursday, and was released a few hours later. The representative for Britney Spears says that her “boys” will be spending some time with her.

In an interview with Britney Spears’s representative on NBC News, she says that Britney’s behavior was unacceptable and inexcusable, and stating that “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.” (March 5th 2026, Lavietes).

According to Yahoo Entertainment Articles, dispatch audio describes her bizarre behavior, saying “Black BMW sedan in and out of lanes… speeding,” (March 5, 2026, Roca).

This isn’t the first time that Spears had legal issues related to driving. As back in the fall of 2023, she was reportedly pulled over for speeding and multiple traffic violations. She also faced 4 misdemeanor charges all the way back  in 2007, after she allegedly had a hit-and-run with a parked car.

Her Instagram account appeared to be taken down on Thursday, and she is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 2026.
