A fire at Fuyao America was started on the roof of the new building on March 22nd and burned for over 36 hours. The EPA released a statement saying that there were no harmful chemicals found in the smoke. Employees said that they would be returning to work the next day in the original building.
The smoke caused roads close to the facility, such as Dixie drive, to be closed. Moraine Fire Marshal, Doug Hatcher, still recommends avoiding the facility. during one of the nights while the fire was burning a thunderstorm caused fire crews to be unable to use aerial ladders due to the risk of lightning. Although, the rain caused the fire to die down, it did not finish it completely.

Fuyao made a statement saying “At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, a fire was reported at our Moraine, Ohio facility. Employees quickly implemented our emergency response plan, all were evacuated safely and first responders were notified. We will provide additional updates as we learn more but we are grateful that our employees are safe and for the professional, dedicated and quick support from local fire services”(Gnau, Hancock, Billing, Wildow, Mar23).
Hatcher said that so far no injuries have been reported.
Dan Suffoletto, Spokesperson for Montgomery County Public Health, said that an air monitoring station is setup in downtown Dayton. He also said that due to wind direction on Monday they were unable to see much but he would not be surprised if an elevated PM (particulate matter) level appeared.
