The family of a Colombian fisherman, filed complaints against the US, stating that their relative named Alejandro Carranza was murdered due to US boat strikes on September 15,2025. The family filed complaints to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights alleging that the US government killed him, illegally.
“From numerous news reports, we know that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was responsible for ordering the bombing of boats like those of Alejandro Carranza and the murder of all those on such boats,” according to the petition. “Secretary Hegseth has admitted that he gave such orders despite the fact that he did not know the identity of those being targeted for these bombings and extra-judicial killings.” (Romero December 3,2025).It was filed that military boats were instructed to fire explosives towards Alejandro because of alleged drugs being illegally boarded on the boat, President Donald Trump was also included in this matter.
Carranzaās lawyer, Don Kovalik stated that the fishermanās family has no recourse to adequate remedies in Colombia to receive payment for these actions and injuries they have received due to the United States. It was also filed that Alejandro had no ties to any of the drug trade and his only daily activity was fishing.“The Colombian boat was adrift and displaying the distress signal due to having an outboard motor. We await explanations from the U.S. governmentā stated by Gustavo Petro, Colombiaās current president on a social media app named X.
Allegedly, three other people were murdered, adding on to Alejdandroās death.

he president of the US, Donald Trump stated that at the time the boats were sent he insisted they strike because of alleged drugs being illegally shipped from Venezuela, and when searching the explosion debris, they found ābig bags of cocaine and fentanyl floating around in the ocean”(Romero December 3,2025).
Since this incident, Hegseth and Donald Trump have ordered more than 20 military strikes against suspected drug boats in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific Ocean. According to files, the Trump administration had very little evidence that the boats were smuggling drugs from Venezuela and Colombia, and these strikes have added up to a total killing of 80 people so far according to officials.
