As of this year around 1 in 5 or 20% of public schools in the United states requires their students to wear uniforms. While a lot of students don’t particularly like uniforms, I think they’re pretty cool. I think it’s nice not having to think about what you’re going to wear to school the next day and have to just throw on a uniform and go on with your day. This is just my opinion but I think the use of school uniforms needs to be popularized.
I mentioned this earlier but it saves more time in the morning. Parents find it easier knowing that their kids know exactly what they are wearing instead of last minute switch outs of outfits and arguments with parents about what is appropriate to wear to school. According to the article on helpfulprofessor.com, “the NAESP study found that 92% of parents believe it’s easier to get their kids ready in the morning if they have a school uniform”(Drew May 29). To add on to that, 93% of parents believe that the uniform policy saves more time in the morning.
My second reason is that it’s harder to tell if a student is poor or not. If all the students dress the same, the kids whose parents can’t afford nice clothing or the newest shows won’t be singled out by their peers. They’d be wearing the same thing as the more wealthy kids and also reduce bullying. It also helps students with their self-worth. The uniforms make them feel they aren’t different or any lesser than other students and puts all students on the same level.Speaking of bullying, Uniforms can prevent bullying among students. Considering that all students will be wearing the same thing, it will prevent students from bullying others due to their fashion choices.

Not to mention a uniform is more affordable. Many schools intentionally choose a simple uniform, so parents won’t have to spend ridiculous amounts of money for their kids’ uniforms. Many affordable stores produce and sell uniforms at a low price during back to school shopping. According to the article on helpfulprofessor.com,”A typical 5 pack of basic white polo shirts that students can wear to school as a uniform is likely to be significantly cheaper than an outfit a child would wear otherwise”(Drew May 29). Furthermore kids without uniforms might feel pressured to change their clothing style to match recent trends or not able to afford those clothes.
