The body of 7 year old Anzi Hu was found off the Central California coast on Sunday, November 16 after being swept into the Pacific amid high surf. Her father’s, 39 year old Yuji Hu, body was also found not far away from hers after attempting to save her.
On Sunday afternoon a little after 1 p.m., a diver found the body of Anzi Hu. It was estimated that her body was found at around 100 yards offshore and half a mile from the girl’s last known location. Once the diver reached the shore they notified the State Parks. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with helping to find the body with a search and rescue.

On Friday Anzi along with her father Yuji Hu, her mother, and 2 year old brother whose names have not been released to the public visited Garrapata State Beach, south of Carmel. According to the article on SFGATE, “Amid 15 to 20-foot waves, Hu’s daughter was “swept off the shoreline” and into the ocean, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said”(Dowd, Bartlett Nov 17). It was also mentioned in the article that both Anzi’s mother and father jumped into the water and attempted to save her, but only her mother was able to return to shore while Yuji was swept away.
Someone found Yuji, pulled him out of the water and began doing CPR. They rushed both of them to the nearest hospital where it was declared Yuji was dead. On the other hand the woman was hospitalized in a stable condition of hypothermia and their son was unharmed.
The incident was unfortunately not a first time thing. According to NBC News findings,”In a separate storm-related incident, a 71-year-old man in Sutter County died when his car was swept away by overflowing stormwater along Pleasant Grove Creek on Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol”(Takahashi, Romero Nov 17). The National Weather Service warned people that there were waves known to strike dry sand with little notice were possible Friday. The storm moved east Sunday and flooded some streets, caused sliding vehicle collisions, and produced more than 12 inches of rain at San Marcos Pass in Santa Barbara.
